Attractions

There is an amazing array of attractions in Dubbo. From history and fine food, to exotic animals and the arts, our city centre truly offers something for everyone.

Dubbo is a major centre servicing the Western Region of NSW, there’s so many things to do and see — whether it’s a brief stop-over on your way to somewhere else, or a week-long adventure with family and friends in tow.

Here are some of our favourite  attractions in Dubbo… apart from visiting Red Earth Dining and Piano Bar, or taking a dip in the swimming pool at No 95, of course!

  • Taronga Western Plains Zoo
The zoo is Australia’s only open plain location to see some of the country’s unique wildlife roaming free instead of in cages. Tourists ride bikes through the grasslands and can interact with some of the world’s most beautiful creatures, it’s for the kids and the big kids at heart.
  • Western Plains Cultural Centre
After talking with the animals, this is the perfect place to inject some sophistication into your life. You’ll find impressive works of art, learn about local indigenous history and participate in cultural workshops. A great day for all ages.
  • Old Dubbo Gaol
Take a peek into a fascinating bygone era, and in particular, barbaric prison life as it was at the turn of the Century. Visitors can wander through the old buildings, inspect original artefacts and even try the chilling experience of being inside a pitch-black solitary confinement cell.
  • The Observatory
Take in some of the best views of the country skies at night… there are also plenty of things to see and do during the daytime too, like a cafe, gift shop and Astro Mini Golf!
  • Royal Flying Doctor’s Service Education Centre
Learn all about Australia’s pioneering medical service, and how it still provides emergency assistance to remote and rural communities. The centre offers a great day for families, and it’s only $2 admission, too!
  • Dubbo Farmers Market
Held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, the Dubbo Farmers Market is a must! From 8am til 12 noon a leading group of the region’s best local producers come together and offer a beautiful range of fresh seasonal produce including bread, olive oil, cheese, wine, fruit, vegetables, coffee and much more. See the colours, taste the flavours and meet the people of the Western Plains. You’ll find the Dubbo Farmers Market at the Macquarie Lions Park on the corner of the Newell Highway and Macquarie Street, Dubbo.
